Evil

22.1.10
This today, my friend, is my personal anatomy of evil.

Bad people do bad things, and if the people and the things are bad enough, we may call both of them "evil". Various other words may be used to describe such behavior- wicked, depraved, vicious- and all suggest that a specifically moral boundary has been crossed. But the word "evil" carries a special and distinct connotation, a sort of metaphysical baggage gathered during its long and ancient association with religion.

Standing in a grand cosmic opposition as the antithesis of good, evil is intimately tied up with the idea of sin, the transgression of divine law. The implied offence against God is often personified in the agency of a devil. In the Christian tradition, for instance, the supreme embodiment of evil is Satan, the arch enemy of God, whose minions, or demons, enter humans to incite or inflict various kinds of evil.

But it is necessary to ask ourselves- what makes evil evil? On the face of it, the close link between evil and sin offers a ready solution to the problem of identifying the evil- an offence against God's law: morality is based on divine command; good is good and evil is evil for the simple reason that God has ordained that it should be so. And as the word of God is preserved in the bible and other sacred texts, we have a detailed record of God's pleasures and displeasures and hence an authoritative source of guidance on what we should and shouldn't do.

There is no doubt that fr most people throughout most of history, some such account of morality, of good and evil, has been accepted without question. There are nevertheless, significant difficulties with this view.

"Evil can never pass away, for there must be always remain something which is antagonistic to good" Plato, 4th century BC.

Hi guys please go to www.nemation.sg and vote for TEAM CATALYSTS! Voting ends soon so hurry!!!

NEGC

Hey guys, I may not have told you all but I am participating in a competition known as NEGC. It is also known as National Education Gaming Championship. I am truly excited about this competition. If you know me, I don't really like competitions because I enjoy keeping a low profile. However, this competition is about gaming so I am interested. At home if you try to find any trophy or medal that I won, you won't find a single one. So since the opportunity has presented itself, I jumped at it and signed up for this competition. Surprisingly, it was our history teacher who introduced this competition.

The game is basically a FPS (first person shooter) game. Many people who play other games like Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare or Modern Warfare 2 will be familiar with the way the game works. Did you know that this game, also know as VSB2 (Virtual Battle Space 2), is actually used to trained the third generation soldiers. This competition is actually organised by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education. The competition is actually based in the Murai Urban Training Facility. To my surprise, there is actually training for this competition. My school's training is actually at HIGH cafe behind Roxy Square. The are 3 sessions or training. If you don't attend a single of the training, you can and will be disqualified. To know more about the competition, please go to www.negc.sg

These are the prizes:

Champion S$3000 + Challenge Trophy, School Trophy & Individual Medals
2nd S$2000 + School Trophy & Individual Medals
3rd and 4th S$1000 + School Trophy & Individual Medals
5th - 8th S$750 + School Trophy
9th - 16th S$500 + School Trophy

Well everyone wants the first place but it cannot belong to everyone. Thus, may the best school win!

All alone..

To keep things simple, I like to be all alone. By alone, I mean ALONE. Not just people around me not talking but really by myself. Being alone gives one just enough time to step out of the world to think. You can think about the past, the present, the future. Without the past, there will be no future. I thus find it ridiculous when people find history boring. I may not seem it outside, all I like to do is sit by the school eco-pond and think. What I really hate is when someone suddenly goes there and break the peace and tranquility. Another thing I hate is when I eat alone at the canteen and someone join me. It seriously seriously pisses me off. What's the point of sitting alone if someone is joining me? Simple common sense should be applied in life. Currently, I am thinking of my future. Many might not do that but i find fantasizing about my own future me to develop my mental growth. Amazingly, I have decided my future in about 2 minutes.

Secondary School (Victoria) ---- IP (TJC/VJC) ---- University (NUS/Oxford)

For university, I have decided to take social psychology and neurology. I really enjoy neurology as a personal interest. I have also decided to take social psychology because if you control the world's mind, you control the world. I have decided that is the best skill I can use, not some useless social interaction course. Of the body, the most important part of the physical being, except the heart, is the brain. If you lose your arms or legs, you are handicapped. You don't even need to lose your brain, just an illness is enough to make your a vegetable. An eternal submission starting from a tiny tiny bacteria. Humans always thought they were very good, but they were wrong. For example, cockroaches can take up more than 10000x of radiation than humans. It is just that humans' minds all fogged up. If they just take a moment to think, they will soon be eating humble pie.

Silence is ultimately perfect for. You can hear whatever you want in it. Why listen to music when you can just listen to silence. Silence is a work of art that very little can appreciate. Imagine one day where the world is totally quiet. That will be the day where silence receives its proper appreciation. I cannot understand people who like noise so much. It spoils your brain. It fogs it up. Why fog your head up when the world is already full of smoke and mirrors? The day where all the mist in the world is clear, that is the day I am looking forward to.

The brain is an extremely powerful tool. Use it well my friend, use it well.

*Silent space for self-reflection. :)

Anatomy of life

14.1.10

This post today is just my personal anatomy of life. Some may see point in it. Some may not. Everyone has their own definition of life, well, this is mine...

To me, life is simple. I live by the motto "Like soldiers, march on". Many things happen in life. They are neither good or bad. It is thinking that makes it so. My motto simply means that we should be like soldiers, who have no choice but to continue marching when they are under a command. No matter how tired, how uncomfortable, they march on. To me, we are just like soldiers, march on , whether we like it or not, through good or bad, through life.

There are many temptations and choices we face in this rapidly-developing world. Many times we will have to make big choices, some time small choices. It is possible that some may even have to choose between friend or future. To truly make a good choice, one should always consider the worst possible ending. Only through that can you make a truly logical decision. One thinks best when they are in fear.

Once again, I mention that this is my personal thoughts, mine may be different from yours, yours may be different from someone else's. But one day, you will be thinking, did I live my life well?

First post!

11.1.10
Hi guys! It feels really good to have a blog! Haha! I used to have a few blogs but I just can't get used to regular blogging. However, I am willing to give it another try for this is for an academic purpose. Haha! This is actually for my english CA1 assignment. Well, blogging can be fun for all I know.

Today was a Monday, first day of week two. I actually woke up at 5.25am but insisted on sleeping some more cause I thought it was a Sunday. Sad... What a terrible way to start a monday- oversleeping for 84 seconds. I brought my PSP to school today because my Ipod nano was out of battery. Without something to distract me on the bus, I will most probably freeze to death. Today morning was especially cold! On the bus today morning, my fingers were numb after the ride! I hate getting my fingers numb somehow. I am a person who likes to keep in control with everything around me. A bit of a control freak I would say.

Saw this year's secondary ones. I wish them their best of luck in their years! :) Assembly was held in hall today and we had prize-giving! I really enjoy assemblies with prize-giving. It is nice to hear of the achievements of fellow victorians. After assembly, we move to one of my favourite places in school- the auditorium. The other of my favourite place in school is the eco-pond. I guess being at the eco-pond helps me calm down very well. We were briefed on our OPW (Online Project Work) assignment. After that we proceeded to class for grouping. Honestly speaking, I am not a "team-player" type of guy. My typical project work method is doing individual with people backing me up. However, I will try my best to work in a team properly this year.

Lessons were as usual- okay, okay. After school, I brainstormed about some ideas for my OPW project then went home. When I reached home, I found out that I had lost my water bottle. It was only two days old. :( I really wish I find it at school tomorrow. Wish me luck. As I know that many people have not seen snow before, I'm gonna upload some pictures of winter last year in Beijing.

P.S. I wasn't actually there so you won't see me.
